I see with my eyes, I break through with my thought. I am human, so are they. But they nag at me, to try what they want me to try. I already have a joyful knowledge and a smile on my face, and yet I've been declared antisocial. Are you coming? No, my parents won't let me. Are you coming? No, I don't know how to swim. Are you coming? No, alcohol makes me sick. Are you coming? No, I've no one to go with. Are you coming? No, I'm an atheist. Then they say to my face, we're sick and tired of your whims, enough of this, you're always with your head in the clouds. Well, you see, I answer, that's on the other side, and I like it there, that's the stage where the true rebels play.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2023, the group has 10,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
