The wheels smoked leaving behind the lava-like road, the countryside road came as a relief. The mud house with husk rugs and lavender on the icons was the refugee. One day of leaving the big city behind, strolling naked through the forest, messing up the grass, christening herself again in the river. Going through memories in the heat, through wishes, waiting for him on the veranda, and he came, as he did every summer. She was blushing while drinking the water from the carafe, and he would just smile. At first, they loved each other only through their eyes, until they ate each other when starving. They would keep the crumbs in the marriage box, for next year.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2023, the group has 10,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
