She had the eyes of a 10 years old, infinite winters in her heart and an endless longing in his thoughts. She had lived with her grandfather for 8 years. For 8 years, she had been the adult. For 8 years she had been hopping that they would come back home from abroad. They promised that they would be back for Christmas. She had been waiting for them at the gate since morning. At midnight she had become a little snowman. I will have my revenge. You will miss me too, she said and went into the shed. The next day the beam had blossomed with a soul. In the wide-open eyes was painted an empty lane with a little girl waiting for a lying Santa.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2023, the group has 10,790 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
