She had three daughters. Too rooted in their own lives to take care of her now in her old age. You take her, no you take her. They played this ping pong game of indifference for a while, and in the end, they cast her off like a rag. A neighbouring lady was the only one who would visit her. She was the one who had found her without a pulse in the house, covered in blood and other things. At the grave, the girls had brought only one funeral arrangement, why would they throw money away? We will never forget you, lied written in huge letters on it. Lighting was striking. The shadows of hypocrisy were bickering now in the sky.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2023, the group has 11,260 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
