She matched her steps to the rhythm of the music while she admired the forest. The fresh air filled her nostrils as she hummed the chorus and gathered crocuses. How nice it would have been if Matei were here too. I'll wait for him at the kindergarten with a small bouquet. Her hair and her silky red scarf were flying in the wind. A strange crack interrupted her. A shiver went down her spine and her eyes widened. From the end of the alley came little Silvi together with the fluffy puppy she had dreamt of as a child. The furry one jumped into her arms, looking at her with eyes like her grandfather's. Grandpa, is it you?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2023, the group has 11,260 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
