Princess Laura was putting her kerchief on. She was determined to go out and see how her subjects were living. Doruța, the servant said: Mylady, the kerchief isn't going to suffice. You can't go out with your eyes painted and with so much perfume on. There's no musk perfume lingering in the slums, the people would immediately take notice. And you might want to change that museline dress. I'll give you my linen one, it's torn at the hems, but it's clean. And those slipper won't do it, I'll give you my opinci, they only have some little holes in them. The Princess stopped. Doruța, I think that the people are doing great, I didn't hear of any riot in the kingdom.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2023, the group has 11,430 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
