The little fox is sleeping on the warm pavement, its head laid on a red pillow. Its eyes are closed and its tail's fluttering in the scorching heat. A few bunnies sleep a bit further, some hedgehogs as well. One here and one there. Each where the weariness found them. The Lion is also sleeping, with its ear glued to the melted tar. It seems like it's wagging its tails too. Or maybe it's just the wind. What is it, Lion? What do you hear, boy? What is the Earth saying? The Earth's sound asleep, it doesn't say anything. Come on. I would love to take you with me, to keep me company. Won't you come? It's up to you. I'm not coming back.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2023, the group has 11,430 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
