It's useless now to want to fix it, you know it well that it is too late, he hears the voice of his wife. I've told you to stop turning your head after this one or that one, she continued as she was packing up the bags. There is always going to be a new one, more beautiful. Do you think that I can't see, that my heart doesn't ask for it? I come home and I imagine how it could be, then I take a sheet of paper and I calculate: what expenses we have, what needs and how much money. And I get over it. You should have only not turned your head after the neighbour's new bicycle and you would have seen the hole. Come, the ambulance is here, we're going to the hospital.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2023, the group has 11,430 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
