Left and right I hear adjectives I don't get. Nationalist, globalist. Traditionalist, progressive. It's not clear to me what the guideline is, and every shouting voice irritates me. And not just now. Always. I wish the guideline was about common sense and humanity. But that way I become, in the words of some, an idealist. So I'll say no more. Whoever wants to hold my hand, feel free to do so. We're forming our own (guide)line. One without expectations. Maybe just people jumping in to help people. That's all.

Come, I'll lay you down in the starry night, he whispered in my hair. His cold eyes sparkled greedily. We're walking, I stay close, he puts his sunglasses on. My will was annihilated, I followed as if hypnotized this feline-walking man. The apartment, in the basement, was in total darkness. Don't you like the light? Sometimes, and he kissed me. On the floor, a small ray of sunlight had found its way in, I instinctively moved towards it. When his incisors touched my neck, I pulled sharply on the curtain, the light blinded him, he fell. My dear, now you know what I do for a living: I hunt vampires.

You'll do, you won't, you come, you don't. You too, and you. No, the game wasn't like that. They all stand in line, she passes by and picks ONE. He steps forward, he's studied, then he's taken by the hand. The rest watch, strung out on the white stripe. The winner has a new name, he will be called My Darling, and gets a special treat. Grandma, did you have a My Darling? Your old\'pa, but he's gone now. All my life I bragged with him. Shall I tell you something? He too picked me out of a line-up of girls, I was the only one he would spin about.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2023, the group has 11,540 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
