Grandma, Tita is fussy. She is constantly squeaking. The corn is too yellow, the bread crusts - too dry, the fruits - too juicy, the carrot - too orange, the electric cables - too stringy, she says the same about the shoelaces. She doesn't like the books in the library, they are supposedly too dusty and it makes her sneeze, and anyway, mom told us to not chew that, because it's old Mircea's house, he is the book rat. Yesterday we all went to a school, but of course Tita didn't like homework either.

You once again didn't do your homework, Florentina. What do you do when you get home? The girl remains silent, bows her head down and slowly swings back and forth. The teacher asks for her report card and wants to call her mom to school. Florentina, scared as she was, starts telling her. Once I get home, I start cooking, then I wash my mom and I feed her. I run to the garden and I make something for Ghita, I clean the chicken's coop and I feed them as well. When my dad arrives, I set the table and I wash the dishes. I start doing homework, I really enjoy them, but my eyes close and I never finish them.

She was flying. She tripped over a cloud and fell into the arms of the Old One. Am I here for not doing my homework? I didn't like it either, until I created man. I learned to bring my own angels on Earth. My own creation. They became robots with a soul, replaced by cars. You are the only one that remembered reading. I will send you back so you can teach them to do it again as well. I will have to write, so they have something to read and I don't like it. You will do a great job, and he put her on a gust of wind. The first sentence, we are all stories of a life. Remember that.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2023, the group has 11,540 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
