A dizzy fly was busily doing laps around Muscat Ottonel's[1] glass. He shooed it away with a firm gesture. He took the casserole with moussaka out of the fridge and put it in the microwave. He turned the radio on. Jean Moscopol's voice filled the room: Do you want to meet me Saturday night in a tavern by the road. He snickered, overcome by memories. The clink of the microwave startled him. He put the moussaka on a plate, placed it on the table and pulled up a chair. Our Elon, give us this day our daily bread. Amen.

[1] Wordplay on the actual last name, Musk, and a white wine grape variety, Muscat Ottonel.

A naked man with a tattoo of a white dove in a blue box on his chest, with his forehead and temples tightened by a crown made of spiky metal, preaches chirping. A faceless man stops in front of him and bashes his face in with a rock, striking avidly with blind rage, then others follow him faithfully. The blood mixed with saliva and pieces of crushed bones splatters the white shoes of a woman who is walking her dead child on a leash. The drops hit the lips of the baby who comes back to life. A miracle.

The dromedary is slowly approaching the Ark.His nose hits the door. Whatcha doing, boss? You're not letting stars in? Elon, waving a mouse tail, was scolding 2 snakes so they would eat dormice and hamsters too. The dromedary yelled. Boss, if this loser doesn't open the gate, you won't have any Egyptian animals. Elon looked at him over his glasses. \'What are you on about? Can't you see I'm in over my head?' and pointed to a big swarm of bees hanging down to his beard. \'Why did I have to buy Noah's business?' He threw a pair of keys. Take that zero-emission Tesla. Save yourself.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2023, the group has 11,540 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
