Nelu beats Floarea every day. Divorce him, stupid broad, or the maniac will kill you. He's not a bad man, except when he drinks. Vera, a minor, fell pregnant for the third time. Vasile found out he has lung cancer and that his wife is cheating on him. He didn't say anything to her. He lit up a cigarette. Andrei embarrassed his parents: he failed the Baccalaureate exam. He filmed himself with his phone falling from the tenth floor. Alexandra is a brave little girl: she doesn't cry when her stepfather rubs her between her legs. People. Copies after God.

The Cheaters of the Future Girls 'School in Bucharest is organising the Alternative Week. On Monday mornings, parent-cheaters bring girl-cheaters who are in grade 0. The parking lot is full of bookmobiles. The pupils jump out of the cars and happily rustle towards the assembly hall. A heavy, brown leather compendium climbs onto the stage, fastened with a belt. He is a special guest from the government. Dear little cheaters, cheat. That's the secret to a successful career. That's the only way you'll become plagiarized doctoral theses, the only ones we accept here.

Once upon a time there was an egg cell from which two lights lit up. They grew and drew on the wall of the womb with their finger, as you do on a steamed-up window, danced under the umbilical cord, dreaming the same dream. They were born holding each other. Their lives always came as a package deal. When one was seen without the other, the first question was where's your sister. One day, one of the lights went out. The other stroked her cheek and didn't know how to live alone. She tied a mirror to her and walked to and for like this.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2023, the group has 11,540 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
