If you want to live, run. Now. Don't you hear? I pushed her and she fell, and the butterflies flew from her hair and stuck in the air like a nimbus for seconds, drawing the moment of separation of love from body. Eventually I ran away. She was saved by the fairy of a very old walnut tree. Took her away from the idiot, I don't like your face, I didn't want you, creap, to a sunny garden where she writes stories for children. When I miss her, she sends a songbird to my window, and I still defend the way to her, with life itself.

The session is ending and I leave Bucharest without telling anyone, I want to make a surprise. On the train I have a seat overlooking the miss, to which I eagerly head. The train station in the city of my childhood smells of summer, and on the chestnut boulevard my steps fly. A little further and I'm at the gate, the walnut tree, the vine, the cradle are all in place. I open the front door, to the left is the kitchen and there Grandma turns her wonder and all her love towards me. I crawl into her arms, I'm home and my heart feels strong.

You feel any emotion ten times more intensely than a normal human and it overwhelms you. You are unable to control your impulses, you do whatever you feel and don't think about the consequences. That's why your life is a total chaos, a monument of instability, you cry too much, laugh too hard, get angry and argue with those around you, who don't understand you. They can't, you're different, you're borderline, you need therapy and pills to control your moods. It took me half my life to give up the diagnosis, the pills and come back to myself.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2023, the group has 11,680 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
