There were good days too. When his father was lying. Dead drunk, his mother said, spitting towards the bed, but he knew he wasn't dead, he was just drunk, and he'd get up again and rip his filthy bitch mouth out. As you sow, so shall you reap, his father yelled, and then he decided to be an orphan. It happened one night. His father was tearing his mother's filthy mouth apart, he closed his eyes and poof, when he opened them, his were gone, only the floor was full of screaming and yelling. A full bucket he gathered. He made layers, he sowed, many people would want a garden like his.

They giggled as they passed the two. At their age, not a bit over 20, to sit in the garden all day, draining, sowing, digging? She hid her hair beneath a dirty handkerchief, her shapeless body beneath her baggy overall. He, bare-chested, tattoos mingled with dirt, was working hard. What the hell are they doing there? Instead of having fun, are they putting potatoes in? No, roses like a grandma, laughed a stingy blonde. The long leaves astonished them. Let's sow some too. Just then the police came. The two were gone.

She had ended up in a private clinic, a luxury home for the elderly, where she was recovering with difficulty after a stroke. Her cognitive problems were serious, and she was with me in the real world for 5 minutes at most. Then she would go into other dimensions and tell me fantasies. She resembled a lot to her sister. One day, she was happy to see me and brightened up by looking in the mirror on the wardrobe, smiled and told me she was so glad her sister came with me. It was the last time she had seen her in her imagination.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2023, the group has 11,680 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
