I'm throwing myself into the sea. Suddenly, it's quiet. All the sea creatures are happy to see me again. A dolphin appears next to me. I know him, he taught me to swim. We dive deeper and deeper together. I also see Ana, my classmate. She's dancing with a seahorse; she has a crown of seaweed in her hair. She calls me to play with her. Let me check something, I tell her. I remove the shells from my ears, my parents are still fighting in the kitchen, so I stay in bed, stick the shells back on my ears and dive into the sea.

Morning, Greta. Morning, Ralph. Morning, Jumper. A seal, a penguin and a dolphin stood in a line waiting for Dave to serve them breakfast. They'd been discussing all night how to set him up with the zoo's new employee. Dave was a tall, childish and naïve guy with glasses who blushed like Mr Clipper after a full day in the sun every time he had a girl around. They had hidden Mary's name tag in the bucket of frozen fish. She had the most beautiful smile in the world.

As if entranced, he found himself following her again. Stop, the trees shouted, stretching out their wicked branches. But her scent had already intoxicated him. There she was. Tall and slender, hair curling in the moonlight. Maybe she's a witch, he thought to himself. She turned, chaining him. Her ripe body begged for caresses, the buds of her breasts prodded him, her mouth sought to suck him. He slipped his hand between her full thighs. He shuddered. He jumped out of bed and lit the candle. Not even in this wilderness had he escaped. He started to make prostrations.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2023, the group has 11,680 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
