If you want to get lucky you have to scrub the toilet every day. I watched the Japanese guy's video and was fascinated. It's not the only habit that brings wealth, you also have to place your shoes in a certain way. I put on gloves and started scrubbing, laid my shoes nicely and rushed to play the lottery. Starting the next day I felt like a rich person, even walking felt different. It's a good thing I didn't quit my job because not a single number was drawn. I guess it was only real in his world or I had to scrub a lifetime in the toilets.

For months I had been dreaming of my mother gesturing and trying to tell me something, only I couldn't hear a word, I could only see her lips moving. I didn't believe in such things, but because it wouldn't leave me alone, I made an appointment with a medium. A drop-dead gypsy invites me into a room studded with crystals and esoteric symbols, but I feel her presence is the most esoteric thing there. She unties her bun, black curls flowing down to her waist and filling the space. Your mother asks why you didn't put Pleșcoi sausages with the beans?

What are you doing? I don't know. Do you like it here? I don't know. Are you staying for a long time? I don't know. Looking for someone? I don't know. Is someone waiting for you? I don't know. Can I help you? I don't know. Did someone upset you? YES. And that's how Life and Death interact, just by changing the line of who you ask. I just come to the movie, with the invitation I get I sit in the chair, and I watch them. I get annoyed when I get distracted by a late viewer. No wrong line, I always cry and clap from so much full of life. The other spectators have frowny faces, yes.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2023, the group has 11,680 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
