He came down the fire escape in the middle of the night, with one eye i was already asleep: do you have spare parts for the Big Dipper? What do you need it for, I asked him, looking at his mottled ski mask. I am stumped, I could use an Alkaid, an Alioth or even a Phecda. I'm loaded with Perseids, I need to deliver them by dawn, I don't want people to say they didn't see anything on my shift. I found a Mizar hiding behind some moon craters and gave it to him. It's going to be a hell of a rain, he shouted, looking at the sky. And he went off from where he came.

Nicā was reading excitedly, waving his freshly washed feet. In the morning he hurried as dawn caught him sitting on the first step. He was on page 147, without getting through a single row. In fact, he was waiting for her to come down. Nah, here she comes, suddenly freezing. Didn't you finish it? she murmured through her lips. I'll finish it tonight. Shall I come with you? he wanted to say, but his desire made him blush, and the words, growing from boiling, turned into lumps, and before the dawn he swallowed them, dawn and she passed, leaving him with his curses. Well done, dude.

The front door was locked and guarded. The only way I could get into the abbot's room was by fire escape. I wanted to tell him that his vow of chastity was a lie, and I was living proof of that. A few minutes of blind love and one woman separated him from his world. When I got to the window, I was scared. Did I have the right to overthrow a system, to shatter dreams? In the monk's room, an albino applied the correction of forgiveness to his bloody skin, with the words: Heavenly Father, forgive me.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2023, the group has 11,820 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
