After she got married, she arrived in a village forgotten by the world. She was raised and lived, until she met him, in a village close to the big city, in a not so distant neighbour. She loved him. She also changed her religion for him. She walked in rubber boots to get from the alley to the main road. She lived with her mother-in-law. She has endured a lot and love has faded. When the mother-in-low reprimanded her for not placing the plates properly, she picked them up one by one and slammed them on the floor. In doing so, she banished the bad luck, packed her bags and left for the bus.

We were digging in the sacred area of the citadel for new discoveries. The eight divinities statues shone in our eyes, to others they were only stones. I sat next to Aphrodite, at her left leg, a little chipped; I reconstructed some pieces of an amphora. From the head of the goddess came two heads of an unknown mythological animal. I involuntarily made a parallel between Christian mythologies over ancient Greek ones until darkness covered my image and I saw myself above snakes retracing the past.

He did not understand anything that had been put at his disposal, but he knew that he had set out to understand the desire that had grown in him. He was afraid: if I can't do it, I will die of longing. Take the first shard and stick it to another and it lives and dies equal to the number of matching shards next to each other. After a year he locked them in the wall and he was still afraid. Then he climbed down from the wooden scaffolding at exactly noon and dared to look up at the sky. The sun laughed in his face for a few moments, and then he saw and cried: Almighty God. And God looked at him from the stained glass window.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2023, the group has 11,820 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
