Like I fool, I had thought that we were the world's perfect shape, but we were bound only by the shiny cuffs on our fingers. I did not have the wisdom to understand that love passes and it pained me to death when I found you with my friend. Your vibration into our bed, your moan in his shoulder, your eyes looking into mine. The knife pierced through both of you, like one of Cupid's arrows, an irony of fate. You're beautiful, traces of blood are sticking strands of your blonde hair around your neck, like one last piece of jewellery.

Ruxandra Donose
Ring, golden ring, Fărămiță sings, the cymbal pinching your guts, the fiddle speaking to the soul in his language. The hair full of brilliantine, the bow tie and the humanity of the song leave you bare naked, with only your sensations. I would love you sweetie-e, but your parents wouldn't let me-e. You remember your first love, which left you spinning at a crossroads, from there on you walked the path which you happened to look upon. Because the tears that fall in your youth years, they're not relief, they're your worst fears. You pour yourself another glass and start singing too.

Caterina Tudorache
Girl, why you pouting since yesterday? Didn't ya want a flashy car? Ya did, I bought my princess one. Come, give your king a kiss. Give me the mic so I can sing something for my heart. Girl, now ya crying. Ya make me have the old one read the cards to find out what ya want. Ya know my heart aches. Girl, ya make me want to beat ya. What the hell ya want? Ah, ya wanna get married. Oh, dear. Ya too, girl. Y'all want the money, to spend all of my money. I can't, girl. My wife won't let me. Come, gimme a kiss. Don't cha want something from Shanel?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2023, the group has 12,090 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
