He began obsessively drawing Miyoko. The notebook was filling up with images of a little girl with big, expressive eyes. One morning, the wind blew in through the open window and flipped through the notebook, tab by tab, giving rise to moving images. Miyoko came to life in her palms. After a while, she entered people's homes through screens, books and dolls placed on the shelves of the stores. One day a reporter asked her where she was writing her stories. The ultrasonic Zalău-Tōkyō train leaves the station on line 3 at 25.71, it is announced bilingually in a nasal voice to passengers on the pink platform. Get into the carriages, the four taxi drivers shout, hunched over the doors. The machine climbs onto the red rail, accelerates and rises steeply into the atmosphere. Passengers cross the first carriage in a well-disciplined manner through the rainbow tunnel into the second carriage resembling a chosen anime character printed on the boarding pass. On their return they will follow the ritual in reverse, with selected portrayals from Gopo animations.

In the field of poppies the sun has risen. Springing from the same root, the two run. They examine each other in wonder. When Sachio looks forward confidently, she looks back in shy embarrassment. When Sachio rises, she falls. Sachio has white wings, with which she dreams of flying. As Sachio becomes a dot in the deep sky, she grows, enfolding the edges of the earth in her arms. When you turn the page, it's night. Sachio wraps herself in wings. He can't see her, but he knows she's there. Always. Unique. The shadow.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2023, the group has 12,210 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
