Uncle, I don't know how you do it, but your blood tests are perfect. How old did you say you were? 75. You're fit as a fiddle. Give it to me straight, you don't drink, do you? I don't drink water, Mr. Doctor, only wine and homemade brandy. You don't smoke. As if, 'been smoking since I was 14. Surely you don't eat fatty foods. If you say that a 180-kilo pig isn't fat, then it must be true. Are you in any pain? God forbid. Then why did you come? I want to ask you to write me a prescription - put anything down - so I can show it to my wife, so she doesn't figure out I came to town for women.

He sat in the corner, on the armchair, right next to the vintage floor lamp with a tall bronze stand and an adjustable white shade. That shadow you notice at each other, from time to time. Now it was turned off, and he sat quietly in his darkness, listening to Sister Rust. It's 8 o'clock, Mircion. I came to read to you. He didn't remember me today either, so I always started from the beginning. We had been friends since kindergarten, so for an hour, I would tell him the same story. Always his story, so he could remember what a beautiful person he is.

We're a small group. United in an ambitious project. Study is the foundation of our research. Day and night. Despite my productivity, my colleagues were concerned. The fact that I spent more time in the bathroom than necessary, and hid in a storage closet during lunch break, annoyed them. Until I gave each of them a book as a gift. While discussing characters, we bonded. There was one problem left - my boss. I used to read reports to him for an hour every day. Knowing he didn't listen, I started reading to him The Boss Project by Vi Keeland. What do you think happened?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2024, the group has 12,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
