The smooth zigzag of the edges began to take shape in front of him. A massive presence to look at, one that doesn't slip away with the ever-flowing torrents of people. The bun knife zigzags too, one after the other, huge piles. Thoughts zigzag too, I'm glad I got here. Here, in the mountains, where people are happy, where things happen, where there's fresh air. Sometimes, he couldn't recall if the mountain was real or if it was another mall appliance. He repeatedly blinked, focusing on the dream outside the window, ignoring the smell of fried meat, here.

I was driving on Route 66 and passed the Grand Canyon while it was getting dark. I pulled over in the first parking spot and went deep into the woods. I set up the tent and stood by the fire, preparing to enjoy a beer. Suddenly, a hairy creature appeared by the fire. It was about three meters tall and had a strong musky smell. We looked at each other for a few seconds, then Bigfoot grabbed a beer and took a big sip as he was sitting down. He looked at me again and said: What? No one is going to believe you.

My wife belongs to a species with skis prolonged to their feet and she drags me with her on ski slopes during vacations. I hate snow, I don't like being inside a cabin and I don't understand the endless talks about Christianas. It's the thousandth time I'vesat next to the local Saint-Bernard, I emptied its little barrel and I gained strength. I peed on the snow: I want to go to the seaside. My wife, embarrassed by my behaviour, seems to understand meand tells me she'll take me wherever I please. I'd like to shout of joy, but I get poker-faced when we enter Hotel Black Sea from Sinaia city.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2024, the group has 12,500 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
