I was running on the stairs, naïve and I couldn't wait to get to him, to see him for the second time. I couldn't get it out of my mind. He totally captivated me, there was nothing that could be done for me. It was like a little obsession. I opened my last button in the front of the door, I rushed in, I threw my coat on the armchair, I quickly took off all my clothes, I took a shower, I went back in the room, then I got myself a cold red wine, I slammed on the couch with chips and with one click on the mouse, I played: Long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Even though they had a whole world narrated in the emails and on the telephone, it was the first time they met. They entered the hotel room, and it was the door or maybe the world that firstly closed behind them. Kissing was the easy part, as if they had just broken up. Without stopping, they opened their buttons one by one. The moon shone among them, like a silent witness, and none wished to make it leave. His voice, somewhere between her left shoulder and ear, whispered: It took thousands of years for the gaze to reach you.

His white shirt fluttered slightly in the wind with its buttons opened. He was extremely relaxed and full of charm. I imagined the walk through the city feeling the breeze of the sea. Just the two of us, on a beach, in an exotic place, away from the world. I hadn't read romantic books, but some covers, representing unrealistically beautiful couples, just like fairy-tales heroes, attracted me. He was real. Years later, I found out that, listening to the Senza giacca e cravatta song, he broke a button because of emotion. He came like this so he wouldn't be late for the date.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2024, the group has 12,800 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
