They took her from the airport, the children kissed her awkwardly, they quickly got in the car and they stayed silent. And her husband stayed silent, he hugged her quickly remarking her hanging skin. She felt hurt, he hadn't complimented her in a long time, ever since she left to work far away. He was paying attention to the road and he didn't see the message he received, but she read it clearly: drop her home and come back, I'm feeling hot and bothered baby. She asked him who that is. I ended up here by chance. I would love to make new friends but these ones are so different. Some always have sharp tongues; others are always stingy. They poke me nonstop. They're edgy for no reason; they hurt me with their way of being. They brag about having seen the country far and wide. Sure, as if I didn't know that when the masters go on vacation they eat in their room? Nobody makes soup at the bed and breakfast. Oh, how should I draw this halfwit's attention because he put a spoon in the knives and forks rack?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2024, the group has 12,800 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
