I got my manicure and pedicure done, my hair, my makeup, shaving, got dressed with the dress I bought especially for this date, new panties, new tights, brand new bra. I left the house one hour earlier. I was just on his neighbourhood. I couldn't find the paper where he wrote the address with a pen. I got through my whole bag, there's nowhere to be found. And I don't even have his phone number. As I sat confused in the middle of the road, I thought that if I was ready, hair done, shaved, what if I make a short trip to Costel's house?

Who is this, woman? Tell me what is he doing here, since I left this house exactly two years ago? It's nothing, stop worrying, it's not a big deal. I was on a short walk in front of the house and from the blue sky a stork came with this black child, he was burnt by the sun. The stork told me to keep him for a short while because she is tired and she has to return to the base to get the instructions. And she put it in my arms and left after telling the child, sit there and behave with the lady because I have lost your address. And she told me that she will be right back. And now I am waiting.

When I bought the house, I have also ordered a hedge for the back of the garden, with a hidden gate to a fantasy world. They only had raw green in stock. The boy who planted it was nice, he disappeared before I got the chance to pay him. The fence was growing in a day like another one in the same amount of time, but more alive. It was so alive that we used to eat together on the terrace. There only was one flaw, the vegan libido. He loves plants. The lawn grows perpendicularly. Yesterday he was lengthening his neck to some cloud roots.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In March 2024, the group has 12,800 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
