Saturday night, 24/02/'24. She came in the house, not a hi love, not a hi how are you and she just slapped me in the face with a smartphone that I could see Steve Jobs assembling it. Who is this slut from the picture, she asked, while I get the memory card out from between my teeth to find the picture. My dear, you are drunk. Let's calm down I get to say before puts me to sleep with the laptop until also see the Microsoft people assembling it. You, bastard, today, on my birthday, you wanted to see whores. My dear, she was my boss, giving me the salary.

The word was spreading among the annelide that Sobol San, the longest-lived from the groundhogs was about to retire. As long as the furry ruled the underground, the peace agreement has been respected and the worms lived in full harmony with the artisans of the galleries. To show gratitude, Titi the Ringer has thought to organize him a farewell party, hoping that the one that took his place would be as kind as him. Great Sobol, please follow me. At the end of the tunnel, we have a surprise for you. Once there, on a bed of leaved there was laying Luminita.

The grandma's vegetable garden was sharing a fence with the village cemetery. Every time she went there she took me with her, I was the only one she had, and she was the only one I had. I was too little to help her, but I kept her company. Grandma, why is the groundhog getting out of the ground? Well, my dear, they want to take a piece of sun and use it in the dark. It's like a postman, like the man that brings me my pension. That was enough for me. I took out the crayon and drew a grandma holding hands with a little girl. Then I put the drawing on a mound at the edge of the fence. For my mother.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2024, the group has 12,860 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
