The promise that we would never go to bed angry after a quarrel dissipated. We would avoid each other during the daytime and rise a wall between us at night. During the first seven nights we curled up on opposite edges of the bed. Then our legs reached the wall. Each night the wall melted beneath our soles. During the next 4 four nights, we slept back to back like some hedgehogs. Then there came the night during which, eyes shut, we searched for each other hands and pressed our bodies together. And we made love. 9 months after, a child would born out of our reconciliation.

My boy and my dear wife, I'm officially announcing to you that the lab results are positive, the tumour markers are off the charts, and I'm going to leave you soon. So as not to lose all the memories that I had with my father up until I was 16, I've started to put them down: hugs, enough pocket money, travelling around the world, the racing bicycle, street football, our first cigar that mum knew nothing about, no complaints. But let's talk about the shape of his belt buckle on my forehead after I saw him at one of the Bard's plays, but not with Mum.

The 6th apartment mailbox is full of bills and letters from those companies which ask for Mr. Gore's money. Mr. Gore is so unhappy that he submits petitions and complaints, then calls Customer Service and tells them that the country is upside down. But what Enel, Engie and Digi don't know is that Mr Gore is eighty-three years old and pays everything online. He enters one of his customer accounts and dials in a sum that he owns to another company. Money flows off his card, but no one is satisfied.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2024, the group has 12,860 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
