Alex Caragian
Then, he reached a realm where each day consisted of ten nights, because at every sunset, the moon rose and set ten times, and when the sun rose again from where the moon had set, the second day would begin and end when the sun one more time set where the moon would rise and of course set as many times as the moon had risen and it would continue this unyielding cycle for ten days, each day for as many nights, but when the sun rose on the eleventh day

At first, there was darkness and nothingness, and no god would walk above anything. On the second night, thoughts cut through emptiness, as if they were tailed stars. On the nights to follow, out of nothingness came questions and a few answers illuminated the darkness. The other nights got filled with voices and wingbeats. There was a war at the edge of the void and the worlds started to recreate themselves. On the eleventh night, when he could feel his body, darkness took shape and a posthumous name - coma. On the twelfth night, there was light.
Ionuț Morariu
They named him Malvolio. But he was a kind soul. His parents soon found out that he wasn't meant for day work. All that he was capable of doing was to look out the window as death turned leaves into pure beauty. This ability also took his eyesight away from him. He thought he was Borges and he was foretelling in a Caracas brothel when he got shot in his two front teeth. He thanked the assassins and said: Sweet as honey is the bullet that spares me from seeing the disgusting sight of human nature. Amen.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2024, the group has 12,860 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
