Hey Ursu[1], hey doggy, hey. Mitru buries his face in the dog's fur. The sheep ruminated in the sheepfold. They were sitting, man and dog, in front of the oak beam house. Mitru put his head down. He strokes the dog's head, the ear mauled and the leg still crippled. Ursu had fought the bear and saved his life a month ago in the woods. Why had he given up? He got up: Come on, Ursu, let's go down to the valley.

On the streets of the drone-hit village, Leo, an abandoned puppy, was straying, looking for a home and a heart to give him hope again. In the same world of grief, little Lua was crying the loss of her parents in the attack. One day, they met. Leo, with his wise eyes, felt the pain in the little girl's broken heart and, with his larks, he brought a smile to her face. Together they had incredible adventures and with every touch, magic emerged, banishing the darkness that had taken over their universe.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2024, the group has 13,100 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
