He fell asleep while his mother was reading him the poem. A curly-haired puppy, totally unusual, dressed in a blue jumpsuit with a chest pocket appeared in his dream. I've got here a duck egg, he whispered secretly, looking left and right so no one would hear him. Rotten, he specifies. His mother, such a good duck, made me swear I'll take care of it. I won't go into details, because you're not even five years old and you're not ready to understand about the food chain. He took out the egg and gave it to him. I'm entrusting it to you, because I couldn't. I'm greedy.

When you have children, you have joy, as a saying goes. They got a curly black puppy for the boy. As the child was, so was the dog. Selfish. His sister couldn't fit into this relationship. So they bought her a puppy of the same breed but white to stop her crying. They didn't call the dogs Day and Night, but Sniff and Dolly. Little did anyone know that early winter was the start of the canine rut. So Sniff and Dolly took turns having four babies. One white, one black and two khaki.

How many lice-ism must you have in the tangled fur of your brain and how many epic ticks must have poisoned your inspiration to bark (on) such a theme?? Listen: Curly-haired puppy. I'm already going to look for a tree. I light a cigarette. She smokes industriously. Just her, because her mind's gone. Totally. A tree top branch with greenish, wavy, wind-ruffled tufts enters lasciviously into my ear. What do you want, you kinky hazel? Let me just tell you that I've been sitting next to you like a puppy for a while, and you still haven't written anything. You, fool.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2024, the group has 13,100 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
