I've been a lion while I was a lion. Puppy, time's running out. Now I'm a stable hand. I beg your pardon. You were. Once. Now you're at the Mistress's, barks Bark, as I'm going off the deep end and snapping out of reality. The rascal. Allow me to introduce him to you, since he's been noticed. Curly is the only brain cell I have left. Friends, buckle up. When I don't catch him in it. That's when his tongue gets all wavy and sweary. We're all crying out our desires, I tell him, my mind in my head and my eyes almost full of tears.

Grig, sit. Come here, Grig. Sit next to Mommy. Leave the gentleman's pants, leave. Hey, damn, see what you did? You made me beat you with a newspaper. Who's been a bad boy, who? Sit nice here. You've got red marks on your ass, but look how good those leather thong panties look on you, uhuu. Excuse us, that's what he does when he's got the hots for someone, he'll run up the man's leg or climb up his back. I thought he was better trained, but now I see he's not ready for this club yet. Say something, Grig. Uh-huh? Did I tighten your collar too tight?

When I went through security, I didn't even think Gabriela's lover would come out the gate. He knew me from a photo, he ran as soon as he saw me. With impossible leaps we run over the buildings, firing dozens of bullets per second, trapped in the matrix. Green lights cast shadows on the walls. I reach for it, but out of a black Dacia springs a little creature and slams a bag over my head. Scrawled on the sidewalk, I catch a glimpse through the car's window of a porcelain dog shaking its head disapprovingly.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2024, the group has 13,100 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
