[...] is this German fella. Let him lead us if we are not capable. The Germans are not corrupt. Have you ever heard of any German to take bribes or to accept gifts? He already has wealth, six homes, so he won't steal from the country's money. Not to mention, he's tall, doesn't talk much, and is already acquainted with the other military commanders in Europe. The war is at our borders, gentlemen, let's ask the German as soon as possible if he will allow us to choose him. I propose we entrust the negotiations to a liberal, Ion Brătianu.

At dusk, in a romantic atmosphere, on a bench in the park, a flea declared his love to a louse. My love, I know that it must be almost impossible to comprehend, I don't know how this happened either, but I cannot picture my life without you. I could even jump off the window into a void, repeatedly. I only ask you one thing. Be patient. Let's wait for the right person. He should have thick hair, especially on his forehead, just as you wish, but please, do not leave me. He should also have a dog.

Comrades, the child is the pillar of communism. The Party raises him in its bosom so that he may reap the rewards in the future. It is of utmost importance to show him that we are the path to progress, to sharpen his instincts, so that he may not fall prey to imperialist doctrine. Comrades, the child must be the perfect citizen. If his mother is against collectivization, the child must inform his older brother, the Security. Keep in mind, comrades, the child must be brought up in the light, and that comes from the east.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2024, the group has 13,200 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
