Born from a star egg coupled with a wandering quasar, to those interested in the matter, I won't recount the dynamics of pleasures bizarre, for this lasted three half-eternities (with some dots in parentheses). I see in your eyes the organic glow of those who witnessed the divine coupling's flow. Yet, there's also the dull gaze, the shocked refrain of amnesiacs from the lascivious mating. Out of curiosity, you peek through the keyhole to learn with surprise how I emerged from that primal clash as a woman before your eyes. I have no name, just call me the Lady with the Veil, my occupation: a starlet, in this cosmic tale.

I look in the mirror; the wrinkles are as intricate as a map drawn by small children. Surprisingly, the white strands do not dare to sprout. A flourishing chestnut. Here, time has forgotten to give me news about the passing years. My elbows are as crumpled as love letters forgotten in the back pocket of my pants. Yet, my soul swings in a cradle amidst the stars, laughing relentlessly at the funny or less funny jokes of life, shining like the light of a star, silent and still unnamed.

The wise man held the cave on his back. The slippery walls caressed his backbones. Although old, his body resembled a sculpture made by some ancient masters. Around his waist grew strands of cashmere, and all the things around whispered in his ear, for, back then, things had no names and only introduced themselves. They asked him if the universe has an end, and he answered yes, that is where we began our journey. And where are we heading? They continued. In the same direction, the wise man confirmed.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2024, the group has 13,230 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
