It was Saturday evening, and a few wandering stars were sipping from a nebula at the corner of the Galaxy, waiting for the Perseids. The rumour went that a young 18-year-old stunner had been spotted among the others, and everybody wanted to meet her. Just then, Pluto stepped out of his house. He had a solar flare as big as the Big Dipper, and the entire Galaxy poked fun at him. Why, Pluto, you are in conjunction with Venus, aren't you? Come on, it's just a flare, after all, it's not as if a black hole swallowed you! And their laugh shook the universe, and the earthlings called it the music of the spheres.

I want a star without a name. Cause all of \'em have one. The lucky star my mother named me after, the stars I see when Pop pulls my hair, the star above rises, go FC Steaua club, and the coveted star I finally earned on my epaulet. I met my wife on a memorable day at a talent show. The flower of the garden. It was hard to convince her I was not a stutterer when I introduced myself as Costea Stelică, one-star second lieutenant. Is it her? But then the starry sky revealed itself to me when the little sweetheart said her name excitedly: Steluța Stelescu.

I'm beautiful. I've had many affairs. You have to understand me. The life of a famous actress is full of temptations. I loved him truly; he enchanted me. His mind. But it was so tough that I tried to forget him. These were sad times; many left him. Not even his real name appeared on the banner of the last play. He didn't get to taste the new life. Lots of shattered dreams. We both suffered, we lost everything. He loved me until the end, idolized me, revived me. I was his star. The unlucky one. Leni.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2024, the group has 13,230 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
