I had just left the North Railway Station in the July heat, carrying after me that orange leather trunk. I couldn't find a car, a bus, a tram, anything. Everything seemed shut down by the terrible heat wave. In the trunk I carried only some heavy books. In a cellophane wrap. All gifted to me. And plates. Also gifted. At some point, an Uber appeared from somewhere. I climbed inside and left. Once in my new home, I smoked a cigarette. Then I neatly arranged the plates in the bookcase. After that, I put the books in my kitchen cupboards.

Dressed in a recycled bottle gown, Greta enjoyed her bio vegan cereal with oat-milk in her firefly-lit room. It was 50 degrees outside, but because of the system (functional thanks to solar energy picked up by the panel covering the building) of sweat recirculation/ purification, working on all bodily fluids, the chamber provided her with all the comfort. The view outside the window saddened her, so she picked up a graphite pencil and a recycled piece of paper and wrote: I propose a new meeting with the world's higher ups.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2024, the group has 13,230 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
