In just a few minutes you found out what schools I went to, who deflowered me, I shared my fears with you, you know I love scarves, I can't stand morning noises, I told you about my last relationship, you know how I like to make love, and that I dislike men who wear flip-flops. I don't know anything about you, it's not fair. Well, I just asked you if you were free tonight, and you didn't shut up. Well, your look asked me a lot of questions. And yes, I'm free tonight. I'm not. I'm going to buy flip flops.

The truth is that Uncle Ticu drinks a lot. After Aunt Lena scolded him, he fell into the armchair and slept like a log. You could cut onions on him. Only one eyelid trembled slightly, like a butterfly undecided whether to turn from the wind's path, or not. I picked it up and got into a thought. My uncle was passing by on his bicycle. He was surrounded by several young people also riding bicycles. He plucked a flower from a fence and handed it to a girl. She kissed his white temple. The butterfly flew away.

The mountain collapsed over the valley, the slope looked like a gigantic snout, towering trees uprooted flowed like powerless pine needles, mixed with rocks that had once seemed eternal, in the stream that covered the city with speed. The wrath had broken the gas pipes, and the light had disappeared from the first gusts. On the roads, cars flashed each other, people who had hated each other for life held each other tightly and, looking at the lightning-strewn sky, asked angrily what had triggered the disaster. The sky was silent.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2024, the group has 13,320 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
