A mountain marathon race for two-what else could you wish for? Especially when Mioara, the most covetable girl in the department, comes along. He was amazed at how easily she accepted his invitation. He changed the bed linen, polished the silverware, and mopped the floors. He stocked up on grilled sausages, wine, and condoms. On Saturday, he had a surprise: Mioara got out of the car, accompanied by a muscular, tattooed guy. When he opened the bedroom door for them, Costel thought that even a bronze medal in the marathon was a great achievement.

Do you remember that hot summer? The angels were melting, even the beggarsfound shelter in the shade. If we didn't hurry, the holly glogg would boil till we buried the dead. I leaned on the shovel to catch my breath, and then I saw her. She was lounging on a rock in the sun, like a lizard. Yes, she was stunning, and I felt for a moment as if I had touched her soul. That was all; it felt like someone was choking the voice out of me. I looked at her like one looks at saints with scorched faces on the church wall. She smiled at me. Will you rub some lotion on my back?

Mr. Răzvan Drăgoi, how did you manage to win the gold medal in the swimming contest, while Pan, Chinese fella, took silver, and David Popovici barely got bronze? It was very difficult. At 50 meters, Pan was first, David was second, just a hundredth of a second behind him. The others weren't far behind either. At 100 meters, Popovici flipturned first, but at 150, unfortunately, Pan was ahead. Still, how did you manage to be the first one to the starting line? Well, you think I could have been so dumb as to leave? My time was zero, an absolute world record.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2024, the group has 13,320 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
