You see, Pierre, this is where it all started. Your father was climbing to get on top. He almost fell and I caught him. I didn't know that clanged to him, there were another two solders. He fell in love with me instantly and told me \'luv you baby, but I can't let u die for me'. He had cut the rope, but in that rush, he also cut my left arm. They fell into the abyss, but three meters lower, the barb got caught up onto the rocks. After they liberated Normandy, he proposed. The other came as well, but I chose him, because he brought my arm back.

She was crying. Eyeing the cliff. This is where it started. From here, she saw him with her. It hurt. She shut up. She accepted. Years. Now she understands that she didn't take revenge, she self-destructed. A coward. She felt like a good host to whom, for twenty years, he was just a guest. Hastily, she put on the black dress, took the urn and threw it from the tall, abrupt shore. Without opening it. It's your turn to be a prisoner, she told him. She took the phone. Dear, don't you want to spread the ashes together, this afternoon? I'll wait. She grinned. The shore was abrupt everywhere.

I was surprised of how handsome, muscular and quasi-educated he was, because his English was actually good. She was tiny, slim, wearing plastic slippers and a ponytail at the top of her head, as it wasn't hers. Even her head seemed like it bothered her, so you get my surprise. At the Immigration Office you have to say how you've met and all that because Erik is Albanese, married in the EU and has to demonstrate that he's not faking. It all started on the shore, they both say, in different rooms. Where? In Costinești, he says. In Eforie, she says.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2024, the group has 13,320 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
