Ciprian Apetrei
It was the most important evening in the city's history. The great writer, who has returned after many years, received honorary citizenship. In the festive room of the town hall, every costume shined. The fame attracted elegance. When he entered, it was complete silence. Welcome, but what an unusual outfit. It is the secret of my youthfulness, I kept them since I my first book release, right here, from home. I have the public's applause even now right here, in my pockets. The next day, the wind blew more cheerful than ever, and the tailor had dull scissors.

The teacher's sharp fingers were hurting him, but he was grinding his teeth and smiled. Why don't you make any excuses for your unfinished homework? the viper whispered unpleased. My father told me to imagine that you are nice, and then it won't hurt. Flattered, drop the scarlet ear, aha, and how do you see me? Well, in the way that you are when the sports teacher invites you to the game: in a cheerleading outfit with pompons and slippers. His ear was twisted again, but the boy was laughing. And you wear a pair of shorts that were stuck in your ass, over which your belly hangs.

At first, she loved wearing dresses. Multicolored. And pigtails with bows. After a while, her wardrobe broadened its horizons. She toned down the colours. It was filled with black and white, skirts, deux pieces, trousers. A lot of it. She loved the short ones, that attracted attention. Then, as fast as sipping coffee, her pants got longer and longer, until she was fully covered, sane as a shroud. With one trouser leg whiter and the other one darker. Yesterday, in the last hour, under the shimmery marble, a ladybug started to fly. A heart was returned.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2024, the group has 13,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
