Manea, the commissioner, looked at her with suspicion, carefully assessing her from head to toe, his eyes being fixed on the obvious bust that was beneath the slightly see-through T-shirt. His thoughts drifted to indecent questions, but he limited himself to the typical ones: what details do you remember about the aggressor? She rolled her eyes: he was wearing shorts. Anything else? They were turquoise. And? They had a hard tiv, stitched with blue. So? Patch pockets. Further? Luckily for him, it had a zipper on the slit. Why luckily? I hate struggling with those little buttons.

Ami only wore pants all through 12th grade. Her friend, Bia, had told her that she had thick ankles. Thick how? Like that, about the size of calves. I tell you this as a friend. The girls hadn't talked to each other for a month, until they met in the park. Ami was wearing little shorts: Paul thinks I have nice legs. He looked at them very close last night. Tomorrow we go to the beach together. Well, I was supposed to see him tomorrow. You don't anymore. He told me that your thighs are full of cellulite. Put on some pants and find yourself another boyfriend. I tell you this as a friend.

She was the star of the night, her appearance provoked the normal reactions from men and the undisguised envy from women. What a smashing success, what reasons for gossip and envious stories. Her gorgeous legs in nylon stockings, with high-heels on ,were mercilessly exposed. It's true, the avant-garde outfit from New Year's Eve would have made her feel like she was the princess of the universe if there had not been -20 degrees in that winter, the snow being frozen, and the path covered in ice, and at the end of it, latrine.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2024, the group has 13,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
