Forgive me father for I have sinned. Brother Elias and I have a secret. We keep fragments of the Forgotten Books of Eden in our cells, behind the shelves. They are forbidden texts that talk about the beginnings of creation and the fall from Paradise, things that people shouldn't know of. We read them in secret, fearing of what we might discover, but also of the fact that we're not worthy of protecting them. The pages have life, but we feel we're getting closer to a truth that should remain buried.

Florina Hegedüs
Grandpa, before half his body got paralyzed, had sailed ships on seas and oceans. I only knew him grumbling because he ended up being ordered by a walking stick. All the house chores were on grandma's shoulders. At night, she was exhausted and in no mood to talk. Once, the noise made by the walking stick got closer to my bed - my dear, aren't you sleeping? No, because I miss hearing stories. He asked me to help him tuck in bed next to me. With his half dropping, half smiling mouth through which he breathed warm air while telling stories, my grandpa made my childhood complete.

Ina Moldoveanu
I seduced them and abandoned them in my bed. After the hot night about which I don't remember much, but the remains of the disaster that's left. Two hands tied to the headboard and a knife with which I slit the throat of the man fallen on the floor. A redheaded man was chasing my in my nightmare, but both of them have blonde hair. I hate blondes. I'm going to bring the demons in my dream to life. I have to give them a human form, otherwise I'd be bound kill again. Robert, come, I got raped. I'm going to die. I cut myself, sniff some powder and wait to become a good girl.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2024, the group has 13,480 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
