Pale, the emperor's son revs the engine. But to no avail, the Dragon kept breathing down his neck. Fortunately, just at that moment a mirror fell in which, the Dragon's reflection appeared, but much closer this time. Damn it, Costică said. But his drum fell, too. Immediately a cloud of smoke appeared, you could cut it with a hacksaw. Not long after, he felt the Dragon's lips whispering on his lower back. I'll try the fail-safe, he said and took the corner. And he tumbled. In that place, a contour in imperial chalk appeared. Not right after, but on the next day.

I am getting ready for the bomb attack, I've put on my dynamite belt, I've got a red square-digit counter and I'm already thinking about the seventy-something virgins waiting for me in Heaven. I feel bad that I couldn't stick a verse or something on the scooter, but whatever, I'm a second-rate terrorist. Anyway, the dynamite is theatre props, the counter is the same, the Kalashnikov is from airsoft, and the military American base is actually, The American's pub, where I can't enter anymore because I run up a tab of a lot of money . This is how the real jihad started, not the one on the news.

Let me tell you a story from high school, I was in the tenth grade, I remember I had a new teacher, of Psychology, who wanted to get our attention and she made a test which sounded like: Those who think that they are fools, stand up. No one moved, so I stood up. Arthur, do you think you are a fool? No, but it's really hard for me to see that you're the only one standing up, I told her. She kicked me out of the class. This is what it means to be a good psychologist, I'm talking about me, I had anticipated the outcome. And I lived happily ever after.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2024, the group has 13,540 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
