I had died. On a summer night. The doctor had declared the time of death, the koliva was simmering over a low flame, and my mother watered the ground with tears everywhere she stepped. That's what they told me when I woke up. Impossible. I had seen no grave, no gravedigger. Smelled no wax, no incense. Why would the bells toll? I was in a field of daisies. One with them. Dancing. The wind was singing. And I couldn't stop my feet from moving. Until I felt the hot rain of my mother's tears - tears that opened my eyes as she stepped over death.

Tiktokson entered the game near the end of the second half. He was part of the team, but no one really knew who he was. At his first touch of the ball, with a simple click, wait, no, just a glance - he lulled all his opponents to sleep, dribbled past them with ease, and scored. The goal was so spectacular they counted it twice. FC WeFakeIt won the cup, while FC Brainwashed went home in defeat. Tiktokson was named Man of the Match. The next day, the game was declared void - microchips were found in Tiktokson's drink. The case remains under heated debate.

I'm a popular rhapsodist and the author of the smash hit Let's climb the Walnut Hill, Baby. I steal the show at weddings and christenings with this banger, thanks to my lively lyrics, something like pas-pas-pas, pas-pas-pas, I got a splinter in my (pause) ankle. It was pitch dark. Lately, I have the lights go out right after uttering the word darkness, and I instruct the dancers to change partners. Unfortunately, after a wedding in Dâlga, the song was banned throughout the county. What a shame. Who knew that, in the darkness, I would end up in the arms of the prefect's wife?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2025, the group has 13,650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
