Girl, I wasn't drunk. As soon as we were alone in the room, he came to me. I could see his hungry wolf eyes and I didn't know whether to tremble with desire or fear. He slid a warm hand on the back of my neck, as if wanting to kiss me or something. I took a step back to make it look like I was running a little, \'cause men are hunters. Okay, fine, because I could look at him in a sexy way too and because he was too close, I didn't want to have a squint. When I took another step, I felt my legs turn to water. You know, my ankles have been shaking up ever since I sprained them. I fell on top of him and we both ended up in bed.

As soon as we entered the park, I took his hand. My gesture interrupted his speech about God knows what constellations, lifting his words into the air like soap bubbles. We walked silently down the alley, focused on the touch of our hands. At one point he started to hop, without letting go of my hand. I didn't know whether to laugh or skip back home. I asked him why he did that, he said it was out of happiness. Three years later, I found out he was so nervous that he'd pissed himself that day.

What a wonder, those lines were just real, age mattered no more. I was so elated, I couldn't wait to tell my husband, it seemed I could already see him taking me in his arms, kissing me and maybe even going out somewhere to celebrate. When he walked in, I told him. He was stunned and then he started wailing over that he was too old to be a father and he didn't feel up to it, to raising another child. I couldn't believe he was serious, I was still smiling when he told me to get rid of the baby.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In February 2025, the group has 13,650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
