Once upon a time, my boyfriend was silent for about three hours and a minute. When he finally began to speak again, he said nothing. But I kept encouraging him. And it wasn't in vain at all. For he was silent, as if his mouth no longer hurt. You almost wanted to say that he was some sort of a great speaker. He was silent in a low, tenor voice. Gesturing nothing. You said he hadn't kept silent for about a month. And I, as a good listener, encouraged him by speaking in one. Let him be heard in silence.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2021, the group has 5.600 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
