The elderly man wakes up at the crack of dawn, turns on the radio, shaves, dresses nicely, waters the geranium in the window while humming a song, makes some tea, puts the biscuits from the bag on a porcelain saucer, sits on the armchair and waits with his eyes on the clock. Ten more minutes. At five past the hour, he hears the doorbell. He opens the door, hugs his nephew, spreads the Legos on the carpet and they start building palaces together. They will play again on Sunday and he will buy more biscuits.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2021, the group has 5.600 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
