A huge wave is approaching my ship. I'm waiting for it. I'm not panicking at all. I know exactly what I need to do. I've prepared my whole life for this journey. I put all my fears on the shore. This life doesn't make sense unless I dare to follow my dream. I face the wave, I go through it, I leave it behind. The blue immensity overwhelms me. A voice disturbs my thoughts. Honey, what are you talking about in the tub? I quickly dip the duckling and the paper boat into the foam. What am I doing? I'm thinking about how to get that loan.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2021, the group has 5.600 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
