To challenge their muse, some writers need peace; others, a bottle of wine. Some people like cafes, they want to feel the hustle and bustle, the people, the life around them. I need to have on my desk the little jade man, a souvenir from Beijing. Last night, for the first time, I was in the hotel known for quality love services. A sparsely dressed woman was waiting for me in the room. The jade figurine on her nightstand confused me a bit. I told the woman to undress. On her naked body, I wrote the most beautiful story.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2021, the group has 6.400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, setting their texts within the limit of 500 symbols (in Romanian language, so in English the limit might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise with an almost daily changed topic. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
