I'm Mezannine. A kind of floor. Or maybe not. That's what they told me from the beginning, there were no more numbers. Now everyone blames me when they get to the wrong floor. At what floor do you go, they ask each other? At 4, please. Hellooo, here I am. Me, the first of the floors. Actually you are going to the fifth floor. I have my pride after all, I'm not a basement. There is no famous balcony on the mezzanine, no passionate suicide, I am not even gonna mention a revolution. Why did you make me after all? To die like that without an answer. A space between floors.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2021, the group has 6.650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, setting their texts within the limit of 500 symbols (in Romanian language, so in English the limit might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise with an almost daily changed topic. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
