My mother is working in a small room beneath the ground, in the big square. I am not quite sure what public means, but I think it is something important. I am staying with her, and we are shaping the pink sheet in rectangles. Men in costumes, women who are selling vegetables, newspaper salesmen, people are coming down, I am giving a coin and get a pink sheet. I am learning to read the scribbles written on the wall. P+I= love. I know exactly when P wrote this. Three years ago, I was eating cherries, it was summer, and it smelled like pee and chlorine. Then, I wrote - look at me. Then, I - you forgot me. I wrote nothing.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2021, the group has 6.650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
